Apologies in advance for this super quick post….But here it is!
I write this with butterflies in my stomach. I never thought I would see the day when I am at the end of the bootcamp program! Well, maybe not NEVER but I always thought this was so far away from me. Nevertheless, I persisted. While my project is nothing fancy, I am very proud of the work I did in 13 days after being across the world for a month. I have a lot more to do on it before it’s done but for right now it meets the requirements and I would like to have that graduation letter in my inbox!!
I made this app called “Film Scout NYC” because my partner has a love for movies and tv shows that are filmed here. She is always looking each day at what is going to be filmed and I thought it would be a great idea to make a place where a user could go and see films and their famous locations!
Beginning with my seed data I added in 5 classic movies (to me) and picked a location that I thought a person would want to know. Home Alone 2 / The Plaza Hotel When Harry Met Sally / Katz’s Delicatessen Annie Hall / South Street Seaport Ghostbusters / Ghostbusters Headquarters You’ve Got Mail / Verdi Square
I added in their exact location and when my app is done I will have incorporated google maps to show the locations on a map, but for right now a user can see the locations and address clearly under the movies tab.
After I created the Rails API back end with a model and controller I began with create-react-app as per the instructions to make my client side react app. This is when things got fun! (Actually all coding is fun even when super frustrating). I created my containers, components, reducers and actions. With the reducers and actions I incorporated how to fetch the movies in the DB and also when creating a whole new movie.
